With the release of the deluxe edition of 'Petrichor' on June 3rd 2022, Auxiliary Phoenix is unveiling an entire additional album worth of bonus material recorded during the album's sessions - newly mixed, overdubbed and completed.
On 2021's 'Petrichor', Auxiliary Phoenix delved deep into inspiration from classic 70's groups like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Return to Forever and Soft Machine, along with contemporary acts such as Yussef Kamaal, Hiatus Kaiyote, Thundercat and Robert Glasper. These influences are filtered through his approach to hip hop production, a self-produced and self-engineered home recording aesthetic, and instrumental skills honed during years of performing with his live jazz fusion trio.
The original album release in 2021 received support from notable Irish radio DJs Peter Curtin (RTÉ 2XM), Dan Hegarty (RTÉ 2FM), Stevie G (Cork's Red FM), John Loftus (8 Radio) & Martin Bridgeman (KCLR), along with features in playlists by GoldenPlec, District Magazine & Ennio Styles (Worldwide FM / Triple R Melbourne).
The new tracks on this deluxe edition of Petrichor show a different side to the Petrichor sound, drawn from the same batch of ~50 tracks originally recorded for the project.
Beginning with the track 'Petrified', this new 11-track 'disc' of the album contains 2 tracks with guest vocals, 8 exploratory instrumentals and a solo bass piece 'When It Rains It Pours', which was complimented as 'beautiful' by Thundercat on Twitter when initially written and shared.
This edition also includes, for the first time, studio recordings by Auxiliary Phoenix Trio, the band originally put together for performing the Petrichor music live, featuring keyboards by James McDermott and drums by Jake Quinn. Auxiliary Phoenix Trio have previously performed around Ireland at the likes of Body & Soul, Knockanstockan, The Sugar Club & a session at RTE Studio 8 for Peter Curtin's RTÉ 2XM show 'Groovers Corner'.

'When the DIY sensibilities of this generation’s bedroom producers coalesce with the experimental sounds of west coast jazz-fusion innovators the result is predictably, pretty special. Auxiliary Phoenix isn’t concerned with any traditional ideas about genre. His latest album Petrichor is a 12 track, self-produced jazz odyssey that borrows inspiration from the likes of Flying Lotus and Yussef Kamaal whilst staying true to his DIY roots. [...] [This] Carlow producer has been creating some of the most forward-facing music in Ireland’s modest scene.' - District Magazine
